It's been a big year for William Worsp. The furniture designer William Worsp fitted out the new-look Mr Toms in Ponsonby and the Kauri Bay Boomrock venue in Clevedon, and has been busy creating custom-made pieces for clients from his workshop in Raglan. Now he's opened the doors to his new pop-up store in Auckland, offering key pieces from his WRW & Co range, or the option to go bespoke.

Located in a rustic Grey Lynn warehouse, the showroom features his original, Scandinavian-inspired pieces, including timber dining tables, drinks trolleys and entertainment units, made from sustainable oak and walnut or reclaimed kauri, rimu, blackwood and oregon. Also for sale: local brands Cult chairs, the Foxes Den linen, Ruahine Hides and Ottoloom throws and blankets.

Choosing hand-crafted means you get to know the story behind each piece, says the designer, who recently made an office desk from timber reclaimed from Hobsonville airbase that was otherwise destined for the skip.

“Each piece has a unique character and you can look at the grains, or scars, or old nail holes. It’s not just beautifully made and solid, it’s strong enough to last a lifetime.”

• WRW & Co, 1 Grosvenor St, Grey Lynn, open until the end of the year.
