In what has been dubbed Diorchella, the House of Dior’s journey into the Californian desert to stage its 2018 cruise collection saw a relaxed, yes, almost musical festival vibe take hold of its show beauty look.

Sun-kissed colours and free flowing hair that wouldn’t have been out of place at Coachella, complemented the modern Prairie girl designs of Maria Grazia Chiuri.

Makeup creative director Peter Philips said, "I wanted to use the warm, organic, and earthy tones of the desert, just like in Georgia O'Keefe's paintings".

He chose earthy and orangey colours, so the models would have the "warm glow" that looked like they had spent an afternoon in the sun and the wind.

Skin was prepped with primer and fluid foundation and Diorskin’s Forever Undeercover Concealer applied.

To get the luminous sun-kissed look extending from the top of the cheekbones down towards the neck, Phillips used Rouge Dior Lipstick in Ready No. 642 as blush, because its slightly earthy brick shade evokes the colours of the desert.

"The shows are like a laboratory, and playing with the products like this is typical of what happens backstage, where you take liberties to create specific effects."

The complexion was finished with a touch of Flash Luminizer Radiance Booster Pen No. 002 to areas that catch the light and then with a light veil of loose powder.

Eyes were embellished with a soft sweep of a brick shade to the centre of the eyelid from the 5 Couleurs palette Inflame No. 767.

Lashes were left free of mascara, with Philips explaining that the soft warmth of the colour opened the eye. Eyebrows were emphasised and precisely defined wtih a brown brow styler. Lips were kept "soft and natural, just polished with Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub".
