Coconut oil is one of my most favourite ingredients, and it so happens to be the star in this homemade body butter. Combine with beautifying essential oils and shea butter, and you have a silky, smooth cream that will give your skin some much-needed softness, particularly during this winter season.

This recipe makes a reasonable amount, which is why I like to pour it into three little tins, so that I can stash one in my purse as well as a having a few extras in the bathroom cabinet.

HOMEMADE BODY BUTTER RECIPE
Makes 150ml approx.

½ cup coconut oil
¼ cup shea butter
5 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops ylang-ylang essential oil
5 drops frankincense essential oil
3 x 50ml aluminium tins or amber jars

1. Place the coconut oil and shea butter in a heatproof bowl over a double boiler. Stir until melted, then stir in the essential oils.

2. Pour into the glass jars or aluminium tins and allow to set, about 2 hours.

Will keep for up to 6 months in a cool, dry place.
