Think overall effect, not perfection
Nobody is going to examine your eyeliner under a microscope, so the odd mishap won't spoil your result. If you think everything has to be perfect, you're at risk of giving up before you even get started!

It's okay to make mistakes
It doesn't matter if you experiment with your makeup and eventually realise that something simply doesn't work. You take it off and move onto something else. Or you improvise: a missed eyeliner stroke can instantly be blended into a smoky look.

Go against old-fashioned rules
Today's textures have changed so much that you can achieve a multitude of finishes. Dark lipsticks, for example, which used to be a no for thin lips, are now plumping and beautifying in light, transparent textures.

How to achieve a 5-minute makeup look
There's no universal solution because it all depends on the strong and weak points of the face. If your skin isn't looking great, spend 4 minutes on your complexion and one applying a hint of mascara and lipstick. If you have perfect skin but small eyes, concentrate on them. Basically, it's a question of managing your time to minimise flaws and highlight your best points.

CLASSIC SMOKY EYES
My philosophy on makeup is always 'Keep it simple'! If you keep this in mind you can't go wrong whichever shades you choose to wear. For a simple, but effortless smoky eye I like to use the shade in the centre bottom of the Lancome Hypnôse Drama Eyes Palette Gris Au Naturel, all over the lid up to the socket line. I then use the deep warm grey in the centre to buff and blend into the socket and along the lower lash line and smoke out. To finish the look I work the black shade along the upper lash line and add lashings of mascara to add drama.

MY RED LIPSTICK
A bold lip is always a chic statement. Keep your eyes simple (a liner and mascara is enough) and make all the focus on the lips. A beautifully vibrant shade like Lancome L'Absolu Rouge Rouge Carrousel #349, a bright coral/pink makes a great statement and lifts your spirits. For a deep and sensuous plum I adore Rose Noire shade 484. Both of these lipsticks deliver rich, saturated colour. Remember to add a touch of blush to add life to your skin... have fun!

MY PERFECT COMPLEXION
A fresh, natural looking complexion is what everyone desires. Currently my favourite way to achieve this is with the wonderful Lancome Miracle Cushion. The light fluid base in a compact covers imperfections, evening out skin tone whilst appearing completely fresh and natural. It's possible to touch up regularly throughout the day without build up. I generally prefer liquid foundations and the portability of this one is a revelation.
