5. Visit well-known contemporary jeweller Warwick Freeman's new exhibition Just Monkeys. However, don't expect jewellery as the focus is on household objects – think door handles, candle holders, paper weights and book ends, created out of unusual materials such as petrified lava flows, pig tusks, marble, stone, basalt and tin.

6. Head along to a group exhibition for the official launch of Colours, with artists coming together to support local non-profit organisations and charities through the sales of their art. — Sapphire Room, Ponsonby Central, October 14, from 9am.

7. Be brought up to date on the latest health products and trends at the BePure Live Well Festival. Head along for inspiring classes and demos on fitness, nutrition, healthy living and lots more - including workshops with Dr Libby.

8. Experience the sounds, sights, and tastes of Indian culture at the Auckland Diwali Festival, taking over Aotea Square, Aotea Centre and Queen St from noon to 9pm each day.
— Auckland central, October 15-16.

—Great South Rd, Otahuhu, Saturday 10am-4pm.

10. One of our favourite annual events, ArtDego, celebrates its fifth birthday at Auckland Art Gallery on Sunday, with the likes of Dariush Lolaiy, Hayden McMillan and Kyle Street pairing with some of our top artists including Ronnie van Hout and Sarah Smuts-Kennedy to create a five-course food and art experience.
