Give the gift of time at this exclusive whisky event

‘Tis the season for giving, and what better way to thank the person you most look up to than by treating them to an experience you get to enjoy too?

The Original Glenfiddich Club will be held at The Northern Club on Thursday, December 15 and Friday, December 16, to celebrate the launch of The Original, Glenfiddich’s original recipe from 1963. The idea is to take your Dad, father figure or a person you look up to (male or female), to the intimate venue to enjoy some quality time — the best gift going.

Guests will be able to kick back and relax, taking in the extensive city views and classic old-world charm from the Northern Club’s plush top-floor Billiards Room. A Glenfiddich ambassador will be on hand to offer whisky tastings, including the chance to sample 12 and 18-year-old Glenfiddich single malt varieties, and guests will be among the first in the country to try The Original recipe, relaunching worldwide. Capture the experience forever by having an old-fashioned ‘father-son’ style photograph taken, then indulge in a game of snooker or blackjack, plus mystery activities to be unveiled at the event. Everything, from the wait staff to the styling, food and beverages will be retro-themed, to take guests back in time to 1963. Think classic old-school canapes, such as asparagus rolls.

The concept for the event is in line with the Glenfiddich brand, one of the few family-run distilleries in the world. Founded by William Grant in 1886, the father of nine had long harboured a dream to create the “best dram in the valley”. Seventy-six years later in 1963, his grandson Sandy Grant Gordon created The Original, the first single malt whisky that was exported to the world. Until then they were a best-kept secret of the Scots.

Current Glenfiddich malt master Brian Kinsman sampled old vintages and went back through the iconic brand’s recipe notes from more than 50 years ago to bring the 1963 recipe back to life. The resulting drop has a pleasant sweetness, lively fruit notes and a soft vanilla oakiness, making it the perfect gift to give this Christmas.

The Original Glenfiddich Club will offer two sessions on Thursday evening from 6-7:30pm and 8-9:30pm. On Friday ticket holders can access the club in sessions from 3-4:30pm, 5-6:30pm and 7-8:30pm with numbers restricted to 40 people per session. The hope is that invited mentors will open up about their own history, while the younger generation will get a taste of yesteryear.

“We’d love it to be a place where people can share an experience with their mentors and give something back to them,” says Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador, Calem Chadwick.

“It’s not often you get to experience something with the person you’re giving it to.”
