1. Rock out with Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds at the punk musician's first New Zealand concert. The guitarist and singer was a founding member of The Gun Club and also a member of The Cramps and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. His band will play at The Tuning Fork in Auckland on Saturday September 3, and Wellington's Bodega the following night. Tickets from Ticketmaster and Undertheradar.

2. Method Man and Redman are back, announcing this week that they will perform one New Zealand show during their Australian tour. The legendary hip hop artists were massive in the 1990s, with Method Man a former member of the Wu-Tang Clan. The tour's focus is the pair's collaborative albums Blackout! (1999) and Blackout! 2 (2009). They will be performing at the Auckland Town Hall on Tuesday September 6. Tickets from Ticketmaster.

3. Part-comedy act, part-musical, Sandy Edmonds - Sure To Rise will remember a New Zealand pop icon from the 1960s. After a period of fame, where she supported acts such as The Rolling Stones and The Searchers, the UK-born singer became disillusioned with the music industry. She vanished from the scene, choosing the less commercial path of marriage, travel, performing with her own jazz/blues band and moving into the fashion and retail industries. The musical comedy show about her life is on at The Classic Comedy Club in Auckland from August 4-6. Tickets from Eventfinda.

4. One of the world's greatest song writers, John Lennon and his life's work will be celebrated in Lennon: Through a Glass Onion. Following sold out seasons in New York, Australia and the UK, the concert and spoken word performance is heading to Auckland's Civic Theatre. Australian actor and singer John Waters and accompanist Bill Risby will perform the artist's hits, including Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Revolution and Strawberry Fields Forever. August 10-13. 5. Fans of Whitney Houston will not want to miss the tribute show The Greatest Love of All – The Whitney Houston Show. The international tour is back in New Zealand for a second stint, with Belinda Davids performing all the hits from the late singer's 30-year career.
