Finally, a cooking performance you can partake in. This Auckland Arts Festival theatre piece finds a husband and wife enacting a wordless drama live on stage, while stirring huge steaming vats of payasam, a traditional Indian dessert. Behind them, 12 drummers beat a rhythm on their sacred drums as the fragrance of aromatic rice wafts through the theatre. Afterwards, the payasam will be passed around for sharing. This multisensory experience involves 100 kilos of rice, sugar, almonds, milk, raisins, cardamom and ghee.
