EAT IT

Our favourite way to add flavour and flair to a summer salad or dessert are these edible flowers, from Patumahoe, South Auckland. Grower Tamsin Wilson also sells the dainty blooms to restaurants including Masu, Soul and The Grove. $5.99 fromsecretgarden.co.nz

WEAR IT

The Nike Air Max has been updated for the holidays, with a new engineered mesh upper and lighter feel than previous releases. Each year the popular running shoe is "reinvented", with this 2015 version designed for better flexibility and fit, including an improved internal cushioning platform.

• Air Max 2015, $260, from Nike and Footlocker stores.

RIDE IT

Fitness that's fun, and performed outside, is ideal at this time of year, when temptations are rife and restraint often low.

Get moving with the likes of paddle-board yoga, kite surfing, surfing or skateboarding. The beautiful boards by local crafters Blank will inspire you to head outdoors, each handcrafted from solid walnut, ash and native New Zealand timbers.

• Blank 'Fancy Pants' skateboard $250. See boardsbyblank.com

BURN IT

Over scented candles? You'll love this little log cabin, made for burning balsam fir incense - the smoke comes out of the chimney. It comes with 10 incense sticks plus a 54-pack refill.

• Paine's log cabin and incense refill, $37, from Flotsam and Jetsam. Ph (09) 361 3831.

MAKE IT

Like summer in a jar, these vibrant pickled vegetables are fantastic for when you have an abundance of produce to use. Delicious served alongside a cheese platter, in an open sandwich or as an easy side to grilled meat or fish - find Eleanor Ozich of Petite Kitchen's recipe now at viva.co.nz.
