Lena Dunham has never shied away from showing off her body, as seen in the many nude scenes on the hit TV show Girls, which she writes, directs, and stars in.

Today Dunham further displayed her beautiful form, sharing an Instagram picture of herself in lingerie from New Zealand label Lonely, with the caption: "Love my @lonelylingerie and I think I will wear it to dinner with some boots and a smile because we are all very lucky to be free".

The endorsement is one of the most high profile for the brand, which is also favoured by influencers such as Lorde, actress Zosia Mamet, and models Charlotte Free and Jessica Stam.

Since launching Lonely as an extension of the Lonely Hearts clothing brand in 2009, the lingerie has been picked up by top retailers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan, and from August, will be sold through London department store Selfridges and the world's top online luxury fashion store, Net-a-Porter.com.

The brand regularly photographs women in ordinary settings as part of an ongoing campaign called The Lonely Girls Project, which is a reaction to tradition lingerie imagery.

"We want to empower women, make them realise that they don't have to be a certain way to feel beautiful," designer Helene Morris told Viva earlier this year. "Lonely Girls come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, ages and backgrounds, and they are all magnificent."
