While you were holidaying, Auckland’s food scene kept growing, as did the city’s obsession with all things bagel, banh mi and ramen related.
1. VLB, Upper Vulcan Lane, City Ruben Maurice (pictured above, formerly of Parnell's Ruben cafe) has filled a cute hole-in-the-wall with his new business Vulcan Lane Bagels, offering tempting pastries, bagels and coffee, all for under $10.
2. Mi, 66 Victoria St East, City (entrance off Federal St)Find some of the best banh mi (Vietnamese filled rolls) in town, in an alleyway off Federal St. Amy Johnson, Leanne and Kay Chung - a daughter, mother and aunty trio - bake the bread daily at this new spot.
3. Zool Zool, 405 Mt Eden Rd, Mt EdenA delicious new ramen noodle and izakaya bar - complete with extensive wine and cocktail list - from the talented team behind Kazuya in Eden Terrace.
