Actor Anna Jullienne's No-Fuss Beauty Routine
The busy mum of two shares her daily beauty hacks that help fast-track her mornings
“To be honest, I’m a pregnant, working, mother of two. I just aim to leave the house in the morning looking somewhat decent while still getting everywhere we need to be on time,” says Kiwi actor Anna Jullienne.
Alone time is few and far between for Anna, who says that she prefers products and routines that are easy and quick to squeeze into her busy life.
“I do try and look after my skin the best I can though in the limited time I have for myself, keeping it well-hydrated and protected from the sun,” she adds.
The homegrown actor cut her teeth as nurse Maia Jefferies on popular TV drama Shortland Street, a role for which she won the Air New Zealand Screen Award for best supporting actress in 2007.
In the time since she made her dramatic exit after eight years on the show (fans will remember Maia’s murderous confession and speedy departure to Sydney), Anna has renovated at Mount Eden villa, welcomed sons Ted and Jude, and starred in a number of theatre productions, TV shows and short films, including Netflix’s 2019 film Falling Inn Love alongside Christina Millian.
From the screen to the stage, Anna is swapping slippers for stilettos in her role as glamorous FLOTUS Sophia in the Auckland Theatre Company’s season of Two Ladies, playing at the ASB Waterfront Theatre until February 27, followed by a North Island tour to Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth and Hastings. All necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the theatre production can continue safely under Level 2 restrictions. Visit Atc.co.nz to secure your tickets.
Early makeup memories
Watching my mum get ready for nights out as a little girl. It was the late 1980s so hot rollers, big clip-on earrings and red lipstick are etched into my memory. I was so in awe of my beautiful mum.
I’m a Dermalogica girl through and through. Morning and night I cleanse with the Special Cleansing Gel, tone with the Antioxidant Hydramist and moisturise with the Skin Smoothing Cream. I also add the SPF Booster in the morning and the BioLumin-C Serum under my moisturiser at night. I’ve actually just started using a brand new Dermalogica product called Neck Fit Contour Lift to try and combat the dreaded saggy neck! Makeup-wise, I use a Mecca foundation with a Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer and my favourite Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara.
Hair and its care
I pretty much wash-and-go. I use Matrix Biolage shampoo and conditioner and because my hair is fine maybe a few squirts of Kevin Murphy’s Bedroom Hair for a bit of root lift.
Five beauty favourites
- Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer for a bit of cheekbone action!
- Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara for full lashes without the panda eye.
- Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense Sunblock to try and prevent my pregnancy pigmentation getting worse.
- BePure Zinc Restore. I swear by zinc for clear, healthy skin.
- Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Body Oil to rub on my rapidly expanding belly.
My mum. She’s so beautiful, inside and out. She wears minimal makeup and spends very little time on beautification, but she is radiant. The beauty she adds to the lives of me and my children is infinite.
Treatment to try
My pigmentation has flared up because I’m pregnant, so once I get this babe out I would be super keen to try a Pro Power Peel at Skintopia in Commercial Bay.
Last beauty buy?
My Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara, one for me and two to give away for Christmas pressies. It’s been a game-changer for me with no more panda eyes at the end of the day. I’ve put a lot of family and friends onto it!
…found less looking in the mirror and more in the faces of those I love.
