Since its inception in 1982, Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II has shot to cult status worldwide, with an average of eight bottles sold per minute. ANR, as it’s affectionately known, was one of the first serums to realise the potential of hyaluronic acid, in a formulation they have on patent until 2033. Viva speaks with three influential women to find out the role Advanced Night Repair plays in their skincare routine.

What's your evening routine?
I light a candle when my working day is over; I inherited this from my mother. I've always been dedicated to my skincare routine; I consider it a measure of how well I'm taking care of myself. There's something therapeutic about washing your face at the end of the day and taking off your makeup (along with your responsibilities).

And morning?
Hot Vinyasa at Studio Red will change your life. There's something exciting about starting your day while the rest of the city sleeps. I've got sensitive skin and it's not uncommon for it to react. When that happens, I'll keep my skincare routine simple and use Advanced Night Repair to soothe. I've lost track of the number of girls I've converted to this serum! It plumps, hydrates and activates the skin's natural repair system.

What lifestyle elements do you find negatively impact your skin and how do you combat them?
I notice a huge difference in my skin when it's fighting pollution. I make sure my skin has a protective barrier when I step out into the world, in the form of a sunscreen and moisturiser. High intensity training creates too much cortisol in my body which shows on my skin, so I favour gentle exercise like yoga, hiking and walking. I've always been high maintenance about my health and wellbeing; I consider it a worthy investment!

What's your evening routine?
I love getting ready for bed, it's time for me. I have a cup of green tea and put my phone away. I slather on body oil while burning my favourite candle and read. My Advanced Night Repair serum is the last thing I apply before I hit the hay. You can almost feel it hydrating the skin and it gives your skin a beautiful glow by morning. I'm a true believer that a good pre-bed routine sets you up for the best sleep.

And morning?
I wake early to get ready before the children wake at 6am. Then it's onto breakfasts and school lunches. I work out with a trainer three mornings a week; it clears my head. I keep my skincare routine simple. I cleanse both morning and night and always use Advanced Night Repair before my moisturiser; it creates the perfect base on which to apply makeup and leaves skin plump and dewy.

When did you first start taking an interest in skincare?
I've loved skincare and beauty products from a young age. A few of my beauty favourites have been inspired by my mother, after seeing products sitting on her dresser. Advanced Night Repair is one of those products, and now I share her obsession.

What lifestyle elements do you find negatively impact your skin and how do you combat them?
Travel gives my skin some grief; it can be super drying! My travel essentials are Advanced Night Repair, body oil and a good lip balm. I also try to follow a healthy diet, and work with a trainer a few times a week to improve my skin quality.

What's your evening routine?
I get confused when days/evenings are anymore, as I work on both NZ time and GMT time with clients from all around the world. But no matter how tired I feel, applying Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II and Eye Concentrate Matrix before bed is a must.

And morning?
I use Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum and Eye Concentrate Matrix as well as Re-Nutriv Ultimate Radiant White Brightening Youth Serum and Cream. I start with my forehead and work it down my neck. I can't live without Estée Lauder Daywear SPF50 moisturiser. I get all my skincare in small, handbag sizes so I can always have them with me when I travel.

When did you first start taking an interest in skincare?
I've always had an interest in skincare and started using Advanced Night Repair in 2012. At first I bought it because of its 'Instagrammable' brown bottle, but grew to love its efficacy. My primary skin focus is always hydration.

What lifestyle elements do you find negatively impact your skin and how do you combat them?
My skin tends to get dryer in the winter, especially when I'm in Europe. I increase my fluid intake; apply more lip balm and Advanced Night Repair on my cheeks and neck. I'm very aware of the impact my diet has on skin. Once a week I'll cut off all social events and clock up eight hours' sleep.

Tips for getting ready in a hurry?
I use Advanced Night Repair to moisturise my skin before touching up my foundation and eyeliner. It works far better than highlighter!
