Prepare to step into the new year: emerald green gets a playful update with a dusting of glitter in the same shade, mattified lips with edges lightly blurred glean a lived-in look, while bronze hues in gloss and satin textures add dimension and luminosity.

Leading makeup artist Kiekie Stanners says the inspiration behind the beauty looks on these pages, modelled by Azini Davies, was embracing the idea of vibrancy and vitality in this summer season, focusing on radiant skin “and an overall healthiness to beauty”.

“Flashes of colour alongside spa-like skin is a signature beauty statement for this upcoming season. Have a play with expressionism, but keep the essence of self-care and natural beauty to the skin. As well as lips and eyes, a strong wash of blush or bronzed touches to highlight the complexion make for a fresh and fun beauty statement,” Kiekie adds.

Hold The Line
Dipped in bronze and highly glossed, this beauty look is anything but boring, especially when paired with a fluffed-up brow. Kiekie smoothed on Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base, followed by M.A.C Studio Face & Body Foundation for breathable, light-to-medium coverage. The creamy, blendable textures of the M.A.C Pro Face Palette in Illuminate underpinned this complexion-flattering look — with taupe, rust and chocolate shades custom-blended into a colour to suit eyes, cheeks and lips. M.A.C Lipglass in Clear served dual purpose to lend a glassy finish to eyelids and lips.

Sweet Talker
Burnt sugar and soft rose shades are universally flattering, and help achieve uniformity when applied to multiple touchpoints of the face. The hero behind this monochromatic makeup is Aleph Beauty Cheek/Lip Tint in the shade Pixie, which lends a touch of healthful colour to eyelids, cheeks and lips. The youthful shade appears all the more radiant when layered with Aleph Beauty Radiance in Moon, a creamy highlighter which imparts an ethereal glow to skin. In the prep phase, Kiekie worked with Aleph Beauty Serum/Primer for a boost of hydration, before using the Aleph Beauty Mixing Tool to mix together a couple of shades of the Aleph Beauty Concealer/Foundation to match Azini’s complexion. The creamy, buildable formula blends easily to a lightly whipped consistency that naturally hydrates and perfects skin.

One Moment Please, Caller
High energy and high impact, this electric beauty look borrows inspiration from the late 80s and early 90s. Why play up one area of the face when you can play up two in contrasting shades of powder blue and raspberry red? Flavedo & Albedo Velvet Eyeshadow in the shade Sky was applied with a fluffy eyeshadow brush to diffuse colour all over lids and up towards the brow bone. M.A.C Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara ensured lashes didn’t get lost. Succulent and ravishing, this shade of raspberry red in the Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipstick is something you can really sink your teeth into.

Express your main character energy with a punchy lip hue that pops against a luminous complexion. Here, Kiekie applied M.A.C Powder Kiss Lipstick in the shade Lasting Passion all over the lips, perfecting the lip line with an angled lip brush. Kiekie pressed in Rae Morris Invisible Mattifier Powder to set and mattify. This multi-purpose, silicone-based powder was also used on hot spots around the face to bring down shine and help makeup to better “stick”.

Call Of The Wild
Eyeliner is back, so say the recent haute couture runway shows. Here, Kiekie enhanced the green reflected in Azini’s eyes by layering Make Up For Ever Aqua Resist Color Pencil Eyeliner with M.A.C Pro Glitter in Emerald for a high-level sparkle effect. Kiekie lent a healthy-looking sheen to skin by layering M.A.C Strobe Cream in the shade Goldlite with M.A.C Face & Body Foundation, helping to lightly perfect while still achieving a skin-like finish. M.A.C Lip Conditioner kept lips hydrated, nourished and glossy.
