So it’s important to protect our tresses as we head into the cooler months — repair summer’s dehydrated hair so it is in best condition to cope with central heating and more use of hot tools by adding these luxurious masks into your weekly routine.

Formulated to illuminate and replenish coloured hair. Apply to damp hair and leave on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Contains a caper berry extract and is sustainably packaged.

Original Mineral The Power Base Protein Masque, $40, for stockists 0800 252530.
Gives damaged hair an infusion of wheat protein, with added plant oils to moisturise and nourish dull, parched or damaged hair. Leave on for at least 2 minutes.

Kevin Murphy Angel Masque, $68, for stockists 0800 273966.
A strengthening and thickening treatment to give fine, coloured hair a lift. Contains quinoa proteins, bamboo extracts, lotus flower and tripeptides. Apply to freshly washed hair and leave on for at least 5-10 minutes.

Moroccanoil Weightless Hydrating Mask, $60, for stockists (09) 360 4466.
This argan-rich formula is a lighter alternative to the original mask and designed not to weigh down fine, dry hair. Comb through towel-dried hair once or twice a week and leave on for 5-7 minutes. Use less frequently as hair improves.

A replenishing mask for hair lacking density. Contains stemoxydine and moisturising hyaluronic ingredients being used across the French company’s premium range for mature hair needs.

As the name suggests, this supports hair that might be showing age-related signs of weakness and dullness. Massage in from roots to ends and leave for 5 minutes. Contains a replenishing caviar extract. Use once or twice a week for optimum results.

Ecru Acacia Protein Masque, $35, for stockists 0800 604604.
This intensive hair treatment contains acacia collagen, plant oils and marine extracts formulated to restore dry and damaged hair. Apply to wet hair for 3-5 minutes, for badly damaged hair, apply to washed towel-dried hair, cover with a plastic shower cap and heat with a blow dryer for 5 minutes. Cool then rinse.
