Some of the most famous people in the world have documented their beloved pets

Although Instagram is the new medium for which to declare undying love for your pet pooch or puss, the bond between humans and their beloved domestic animals has long been visually documented. Compiled from the National Portrait Gallery’s collection of photographs, Pets in Portraits includes the Duke and Duchess of Windsor with their pet pug Dizzy, Queen Victoria with her dogs and prima ballerina Anna Pavlova with her swan Jack draped lovingly around her neck.
