When you are out of town it pays to know where to go for something quick, cheap and delicious

Taco Medic, Queenstown
Operating inside a portable food truck, this little Mexican joint is a healthy favourite. All the tacos on the menu are made fresh, are gluten-free and prepared using locally sourced organic produce and free farmed meats.

McLeod's Pizza Barn, Waipu
This pizza joint is Northland’s go-to destination for a good time, delicious food and local craft beer. 

Jizo Japanese cafe & bar, Dunedin
A local favourite Jizo offers fresh, cheap Japanese food and is frequented by students, families and cool kids. The teriyaki sushi balls are to die for, and a visit is an must if you are travelling through or in Dunedin.

Mizzoni Barside Pizza and Espresso, Whangamata
A great little “hot, fresh and fast” wood fire pizza and coffee joint — located down an alleyway, inside a container, with a little courtyard out the front.

A European-inspired eatery with delicious pizza (which can be ordered by the slice), fresh bread, coffee, gelato and more. Located just a few minutes drive out of town, and on your way to some of the best surf spots in the country.

The Wainui Store, Gisborne
This is a one stop shop: a convenience store which also serves coffee and has rave worthy takeaways (open from December 26) — from pizzas, pies, burgers to fish and chips.

Dragonfired, Waiheke
A mobile wood fired pizza oven located beside the beach at Little Oneroa on Waiheke Island. They use traditional pizza making techniques and work with local and organic produce to offer fresh and delicious pizza. 

The Coromandel Oyster Company, Coromandel
The Coromandel Oyster Company has been in existence since the 60s, and their cute little roadside retail store located on SH25 is well worth a trip for a tasty meal of fresh or cooked seafood — green-lipped mussels, kina, paua, crayfish.
