This Female-Led Music Gig Is Raising Money For Women's Refuge

Featuring Jess B, Being and more, all proceeds will go directly towards services in Papakura

A gig for a great cause? We’re in.

For Refuge Appeal Month this July, a not-to-be-missed fundraising music concert at Galatos will raise money for Eastern Refuge Society, which provides refuge and support for women and children in East and South Auckland.

The funky and mostly female-led line-up includes hip-hop star Jess B, Hang Loose, Being, Imugi, Half. Queen, PollyHill, and Na Noise.

Artists are donating their time and all money raised will go directly towards services in Papakura.

"That’s an area that really underserviced. We're just starting to serve the community in need out there but currently, they don’t have the resources to fill all of the need of the area," says Petra Naus, who is the event's organiser and volunteer at Women's Refuge.

"Domestic violence in New Zealand is a huge problem that's not going away. Police get a call out for a domestic-violence related issue every four minutes," says Petra.

A raffle is being drawn on the night, with a serious bundle of prizes up for grabs including; a $300 voucher from Penny Sage, a bag from Goat Loft Studios, Curio Noir perfume, $100 voucher for Waves Vintage & tote bag, $50 Huckleberry Voucher,  $200 voucher for Gemmayze St,  $100 voucher for Ima Cuisine and more.

Raffle tickets are $10 or three for $20 which you can buy on the night, or ahead of the event at Strange Goods on Karangahape Road

There's also a  t-shirt designed by illustrator Chippy available to buy.

"It's going to be a night of amazing music and a really good feeling of solidarity. Plus, lots of the refuge staff are coming along so it will be nice to celebrate the incredible hard work that they do every day," says Petra.
