The malls are nuts, the supermarket is insane, and for a lot of us, the thought of preparing Christmas lunch or dinner for the family et al is completely overwhelming. Let us help you, with these pre-prepared festive feast ideas.
Jess’ Underground Kitchen
This Herne Bay fave has three enticing options for Christmas Day, which will be delivered on December 23 or 24, or available for you to pick up from Jess' Underground Kitchen on Jervois Rd. The lavish feast for eight to 10 adults ($329) has three protein options — a orange and pomegranate glazed half-ham, feta and herb crusted salmon or a peri-peri roast leg of lamb — and four side dishes (potatoes, baby carrots, and a couple of salads). Albany catering company Feedme's Christmas Box is delivered pre-cooked in foil trays on December 23, complete with heating instructions. There are three options with the four-person box priced at $220, eight-person $396 and 12-person $576. For that you get a tasty sherry and honey-glazed Freedom Farms champagne ham, a Canter Valley boned-and-rolled turkey, beans, carrots, potatoes and salad, and a couple of dessert options. Milford caterers Sauce are offering a small menu of free range meats (chicken and glazed ham, accompanied by hand-made chutney and fresh herb garnish), several options of salads and sides, quiches, a cold larder selection of dips and pates, and a few desserts for Christmas Day. Orders can be picked up from Sauce’s Tiny Food Store in Milford from December 22-24 between 10am-12pm (times will be pre-arranged), or you can ask them to deliver Auckland-wide. Another Herne Bay star Catroux also has a delicious Christmas Day menu on offer, with nine salads (each feeds five people), proteins including a whole side salmon fillet, free range chicken breasts, glazed ham off the bone, and a range of decadent sweets for later. Deli, cake shop and catering company Rocket Kitchen’s festive lineup is a whopper, ranging from two flavours of zesty baked salmon fillet, crispy bacon-wrapped chicken or turkey breasts, glazed ham, roasted pork loin, quiches, vegetables, salads and heaps more. There is even a low-carb slaw option, and at the other end of the scale, plenty of sweet treats. Orders close on December 22, for pick up from the Ponsonby store on Christmas Eve. Kingsland-based Gobble Catering has a wide range of meal options, which must be ordered by December 17 and picked up between 10am-1pm on the days before Christmas. Medium platters will feed six to eight people, while large plates look after 9-12. These can be made up of anything from breakfast treats, Christmas sandwiches, morning or afternoon tea to sliced meats, barbecue fodder, seafood, cheese and dessert.
