Brie Larson’s Beauty Evolution: Her Best Red Carpet Looks

From child actor to bonafide Hollywood star, Marvel’s powerful new heroine continues to raise the stakes in red carpet beauty

2003

We’re calling it — Brie Larson was an early adopter of the hair slide trend (but more on that later). A then 14-year-old Brie wore age-appropriate pink lip gloss and very little other makeup to the Agent Cody Banks premiere in California.

Seen here wearing the most popular hairstyle for teens during the mid Noughties, also known as the extreme side fringe, Brie went bottle-blonde at the Yours, Mine and Ours premiere at Arclight Theatre.

We’ve done you a favour by fast-forwarding a few years to 2009 (all you’re missing is a whole lot of side fringe and plenty of emo-inspired kohl liner to boot). An auburn Brie lopped off her tresses in favour of a pixie cut, which she accessorised with a black satin ribbon at the premiere of United States of Tara.

Brie’s side fringe made its comeback in 2012, but this time we could still spot her right eye. The 21 Jump Street actress wore choppy bangs, peach blush and coral red lips to its premiere at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

This is what all you beauty buffs have been waiting for. Signifying her foray into the fashion world (and consequently designers' front rows), Brie wore her hair smoothed into a series of tightly-coiled topknots at the Met Gala in 2014. Perfected skin, a little contouring and subtle taupe hues across her eyelids had her looking every bit the sophisticate.

Brie showed off her more feminine side by combining purple and pink into her red carpet look at the premiere of Room. Glittery purple eyeliner offered stark contrast against her brown eyes, while glossy pink lips perked up her porcelain complexion.

Brie had every reason to smile like a Cheshire cat at the 2016 Academy Awards — this piece of hardware marked the fourth to add to her trophy case for her performance in Room. Purple and pink continued to be a popular combination for the award-winning star, who repeated the aforementioned beauty look, but upped the ante this time with a bright, fuchsia hue on her lips.

She may not be clutching an award this time, but Brie’s beauty look at the 2017 Academy Awards was a real winner. Windswept hair, glowing skin, matte red lips and a gentle ‘smize’ had Brie looking every bit the screen siren.

2017

2017 was such a good year for Brie Larson beauty-wise, we had to include it in this list twice. At the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, Brie paired her lip shade perfectly to her burgundy Rodarte gown, complemented by mirror-like hair and fluffy brows.

In yet another example of matching her beauty look with her ensemble, Brie’s blue smoky eye reflected the glittering cerulean shades in her multi-coloured Gucci gown at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards. A monochromatic peach approach to her lips and cheeks didn’t detract from this statement eye look.

2019

Brie ditched her penchant for side partings at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, with her long bob smoothed into a centre part with undulating waves. Makeup was relatively fuss-free – save for a lick of burnt caramel lipstick on her lips.

Her natural features were the hero at the UK premiere of Captain Marvel, with power woman opting for a medium coverage foundation to let her natural skin texture peep through. A messy up-do with face framing layers prevented her overall look from appearing too stuffy.
