Watch Kate Sylvester's Moving 'Stop Your Sobbing' Show
The designer's emotional 2005 NZ Fashion Week show still has people talking
Nick Cave’s Into My Arms was the soundtrack and the backdrop was a “wall of tears”. Models with dishevelled hair and artfully smeared eye makeup strolled the runway, while some guests – apparently, according to fashion legend – sobbed into their gifted monogrammed hankies.
Kate Sylvester’s tear-jerker of a 2005 show, Stop Your Sobbing, is still talked about in fashion circles as one of New Zealand Fashion Week’s most memorable moments.
“It remains one of her most beautiful and heart-rending collections and a powerful, spellbinding runway show,” recalled ex-fashion journalist Stacy Gregg in 2014.
This year, Kate will show at NZFW on August 31.
