Watch Zambesi at NZ Fashion Week 2006

Held on a marine park and with all the coolest models of the moment, it still holds up as one of Zambesi's best-ever shows

The follow-up to Zambesi's iconic St James moment, the 2006 New Zealand Fashion Week show from the brand was another presentation that has long stayed in the minds of those who were lucky enough to be there.

Held in the cavernous Pier21 Drystack boatpark by Auckland's harbour and opening to the sound of the Jaws theme song, the bustling front row included JD Fortune and INXS (a classic 2006 moment in itself) and Australian actress Melissa George.

The clothes were classic Zambesi fabric play, with layers of lush silk chiffon, jacquard and sequins worn by the coolest models of the moment — Veronica Crockford-Pound, Delphine Avril Planqueel, Penny Pickard, Ngahuia Williams and Briar Anderson (nee Neville) — all in blunt, choppy wigs.

Zambesi will open NZFW 2017 on Monday night, as the recipients of this year’s Mercedes-Benz Presents accolade.

• In the build-up to New Zealand Fashion Week, we have been celebrating those key moments when the clothes, music, models, styling, mood and more came together to create something people are still talking about. Watch our videos of three key NZFW shows, including Nom*D in 2002 and Kate Sylvester in 2005.
